"As soon as you plug a second monitor into your computer, Windows 7 detects it and immediately starts using it." - If only this was true. I have a brand new Acer eMachines netbook. With XP the second monitor (a projector) was fine. I upgraded to W7... Now I can't see the projector at all when I plug it in. When I reboot, I can see the projector okay, but I can't use my own screen !! How dumb is that.

I can't seem to get my monitor on VGA and my 42" panasonic tv on HDMI to show at he same time. Each is recognised and works when connected on their own separately but when both connected only the monitor has a display. Both are shown in the screen resolution boxes as 1 and 2.

WHEN I HOOK UP MY MONITOR VIA VGA AND AMY HDTV VIA HDMI MY LAPTOP ONLY ALLOWS ONE OF THE TWO SCREENS TO WORK SIMULANEOUSLY. ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN EXTEND TO THREE MONITRS? I M IN WIN7 AND HP G61 LAPTOP.

This "auto assumption" and making same resolution on both monitors is definitely a big fail.
My problem is that when doing presentation from laptop with recommended resolution of 1920x1200 i can't use it because display is with 1024x768 resolution. So on laptop screen i use 1/3 of the display.

Is there a way to set manualy different resolution for different monitors?

Hey Doug, is Win7 capable of extending the logon screen background (not the desktop wallpaper) onto the second monitor if the PC/notebook is lock?

Amit Sehgal, I am running into this too, however, I've done some testing. If I connect to my dual monitor machine, with a single monitor source, the remote desktop sesson moves everything into one monitor (for the remote client), and I'm logged off my desktop. However, if I just end the session, and don't 'Log Off' from the remote desktop session, when I log back into my desktop, it puts all the stuff back. If I log off from the remote desktop session, and then log back into my desktop, everything is scrunched onto one monitor.

Trying to find a way to switch the default power button in the start menu from Logoff to Disconnect, for a remote desktop user, cause this is going to be for a client user.

In most OS(s), playing a game and with duel monitors will hinder you from using the second for other uses. Does win7 fix this? I haven't gotten a second monitor, but I was just curious.
